Screw Up Tuesday August 12, 2008

Posted by Mistress B in Blogging stuff, Funny Stuff, Hubby, Ramblings.

Yes, it’s that time of the week once more where I ask you to strip naked and run around the block lay bare your soul in the quest of ridding ourselves of those little things that frustrate, embarrass or annoy us.

Screw ups.

We all have them.

We all do them.

And anyone who says they don’t is a liar!

Or delusional.

Take your pick šŸ˜‰

I guess the biggest one for us this week past, was presuming that we would be getting a carefree weekend away from our children, our families and our daily concerns. Oh how wrong we were.

We arrived at our destination around 6ish on Friday night, checked in, went for a wander and bought a small serve of hot chips to eat with our chicken sandwiches that we’d made at home to bring with us. We had a picnic tea on our bed in our nice free motel room and discovered to my delight that we had a spa bath in our ensuite. We were set for a weekend on indulgence and married style debauchery in between causing havoc and chaos at the conference sessions ………..

Our enthusiasm last right up until breakfast the next morning, when we came face to face with the MIL in the dining room.

She saw us and her eyes lit up. I mumbled hello in response to her greeting and hurredly made my way to the table with the juices to get myself a drink. PSLS followed closely behind me trying to pretend this wasn’t happening. No such luck. His sudden fascination in breakfast beverages wasn’t going to get him off the hook. She walked up behind him and said in a no nonsense voice “Hello SON”………. which is a little hard to ignore. Especially in a small dining room when surrounded by 20 or so of your peers. He gave her a very half hearted ‘oh hello’ then quickly turned his back to her to the juices.

That was awkward.

Poor PSLS couldn’t eat his free heaping plate of bacon, sausages, poached eggs, grilled tomato, and toast after that. She put him off his food.

Then we spent the rest of our weekend hoping she wouldn’t try to approach us again or worse still, discover our room number and pay us a visit!

On the bonus side, because we were so busily avoiding her, we also weren’t sitting with the people from our surrounding areas so got to meet a lot of different people to those that we’d normally be spending most of our time with at these things.

Coming home we had the usual assortment of screw ups with PSLS hurrying to get to the dining room early to avoid ruining his breakfast two mornings running, then hurrying to check out which resulted in us being an hour early to the morning conference session. We ended up going for a scenic drive to find out what the tower is on the nearby hill that we could see from in town.Ā  (This pic was taken from the town centre and you can see the tower on the hill in between the traffic lights)

When we got up there we discovered this massive memorial dedicated to the soldiers in the Boer War.

The view was stunning!

Did I mention we got lost on our way home? No? PSLS decided to come home a different way so that we’d be more likely to see snow but then couldn’t find the road we needed to turn off on to. Turns out that the road we needed was back in the middle of town and not anywhere near the major highway turn off where he was looking!

So, fess up! What do you have to confess, share or vent this week?

Leave me a comment and I’ll link back to your post.

Oh, I think MIL should have been told “on dirty weekends no mothers exist!!!”

Did you know she was going to be there?

I will do my screw up later on today.

6. Bettina - August 12, 2008

No we had no idea she was going to be there – the few times we had talked to her over the past year, she’d told us she wasn’t doing much RFS stuff these days.

How unfortunate that your week end away was cramped by the MIL. Sounds like you definitely made the best of it though.

9. picklebums - August 12, 2008

Oh man I would not have been happy to meet my MIL on a weekend away!
Anyway… I finally have a screw-up story to share and it happened on the right day AND I remember to come tell you about it! so here you go…

PQ – we did make the best of it. We had a lot of fun.

Kate – hubby was most unimpressed. I laughed myself silly! Have added you. šŸ™‚ Great story btw!
